Twain portrays the life in Virginia City: mining litigation, horse breaking, fighting a tarantula, a funeral, and the Washoe Zephyr winds. He mined for silver in Unionville, labored in a silver mill In Aurora, and was afterwards a reporter for Virginia City’s Territorial Enterprise. The book includes dozens of numerous often comical line drawings which depict scenes of everyday Nevada life of the early 1860s. This is a photo-offset of Twain’s first edition of Roughing It.
