Stanley is an avid western book and map collector, and his private library and archive contains more than 3000 items, as well as 16,000 photographs, old stock and other ephemera.

He currently lives in Reno, promoting and editing new books. Summers him revisiting the same haunts that have fascinated this Nevada native ever since he was a teenager.
